MITCHELL – Aberdeen Central’s shutout streak may have come to a close, but its win streak did not, as the Golden Eagles rolled to a 6-1 boys’ soccer victory over Mitchell Thursday night on the road.

Central allowed its first goal in five games on a Kernel goal in the game’s 12th minute. The Golden Eagles, however, brushed it off to the tune of six scores of their own. The result was a cruise in victory lane for fifth straight game.

“The guys played a very consistent game from front to back,” said Central coach Lance Mohr. “Effort and focus was there and we did a nice job of connecting centrally.”

Gus Bjerkness tallied two goals and an assist for the Golden Eagles, including the opening score of the game just three minutes into the contest. Mitchell’s 12th-minute goal tied the game, but Central then rattled off five unanswered goals, four in the second half, en route to the victory.

Linus Johnson, Bryson Burgard and Marco Machado had a goal and an assist apiece, while Donovan Kiesow scored off a late corner kick for the Golden Eagles, who outshot the host Kernels by a 22-2 margin.

“I thought our finishing could have been a little cleaner in the first half, but we did a much better job in the second half,” Mohr said.

Central will host Sioux Falls Washington Tuesday at 6 p.m.
