GROTON – Groton scored a goal in each half on the way to a 2-1 girls’ soccer win over Lennox on Tuesday afternoon.

Sydney Locke had both goals for the Tigers, including one in the first three minutes of action on an assist from McKenna Tietz.

“We fired attack after attack in the opening minutes,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner, “and came out ahead with a wonderfully worked throw in from McKenna Tietz to an open Sydney Locke to knock home the opener inside the first three minutes.”

After the Tigers owned a two-goal lead, goalie Tori Schuster was able to help keep Groton in front, stopping nine shots on the day.

“There are things we did at our best all season today, and a couple of nuances that we will have to fix up,” Baumgartner said. “I’m proud of the energy we brought in the opening stages of each half and how we fought for a rewarding victory on homecoming week.”
