Looking Back

A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Sept. 13-19, 2026:

Last year on Sept. 17, 2025: Langford native Ady Dwight has earned another honor from the DWU volleyball team. The four-time All-American had her number 2 retired following her historic career. She was a four-time All-American for the Tigers (2020-23) and is the first DWU volleyball player to have her number retired.

10 years ago on Sept. 16, 2016: In its first home game in its first season, the Black Hills State women’s soccer team lost 4-3 to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

20 years ago on Sept. 19, 2006: Sioux Falls Washington defeated Rapid City Stevens 5-4 in a girls’ tennis dual. It snapped RCS streak of 105 dual wins that started in 2002. Jason Olson is the RCS coach.

30 years ago on Sept. 14, 1996: SDSU defeated South Dakota Tech 56-0 in football. The Jacks have now outscored the Hardrockers 160-20 in the last three seasons.

40 years ago on Sept. 13, 1986: Led by Armour native Tim McFarland on the line and Sioux Falls native Scott Jones at quarterback, USD rushed for 383 yards to topple host SDSU 26-14.

50 years ago on Sept. 17, 1976: The Eureka football team finally got to play a “regular” homecoming game in a 43-8 loss to Leola. In 1974, the game was called when a power failure halfway through caused the game to be called off. Last year due to a mix-up, there were no officials for the game, so it was played the following night.
