Last year on Sept. 27, 2025: Wyatt Block of NSU broke a 20-year-old school record with his 96-yard touchdown run in a win over the University of Mary. NSU said that Johnny Bentley had held the Wolves record for longest scoring run with his 83-yard TD run against Mayville in 2005.

10 years ago on Oct. 1, 2016: In the girls’ soccer state quarterfinals, Rapid City Central defeated Aberdeen Central 3-2 in two overtimes. Deborah Wills and Allie Zueger scored for the Golden Eagles.

20 years ago on Sept. 29, 2006: Pierre senior Nellie Bloomberg defeated Aberdeen Central sophomore Alicia Olson for the ESD girls’ tennis title in No. 1 singles.

30 years ago on Sept. 28, 1996: Natalie Braun scored 12 points to pace Warner over host Milbank 42-37.

40 years ago on Sept. 28, 1986: On his 26th birthday, PGA rookie Tom Byrum of Onida shot a 278 to finish second and earn $43,200 at the Southwest Classic in Texas. Mark Calcavecchia shot a 275 to win the event.

50 years ago on Oct. 1, 1976: John Twiss had a hand in five touchdowns as he led Doland over Castlewood 52-14.
