SPEARFISH – The Aberdeen Central boys’ soccer program found a way to score late in the first half, but not a way to claim the lead as the Golden Eagles played to a 1-1 tie against Spearfish Saturday morning. The draw means Central closes the opening weekend of play without a loss.
Central senior Linus Johnson scored his third goal in two days with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half for the Golden Eagles. That score erased an own goal for Central, which came in the first 15 minutes of action.
The second half was a scoreless affair with neither team able to break through for the lead.
Central coach Lance Mohr acknowledged the challenge of playing on back-to-back days to begin the season.
“We played well,” Mohr said, but the boys are exhausted.”
Central will head to Huron on Tuesday for its third straight road contest to begin the season. That game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
