SPEARFISH – Aberdeen Central wrapped up a scoring-heavy weekend with a 6-1 girls’ soccer victory over Spearfish Saturday afternoon, moving to 2-0 on the season after a 16-goal weekend.
The Golden Eagles got two-goal performances from Jaxi Lozenski and Keyana Stillman in Saturday’s contest. Lozenski had a goal in each half, while Stillman found the net twice in the second half.
Espynn Kuhfeld scored on a corner kick opportunity in the sixth minute of action, while Bria Chambers also scored midway through the second half.
Despite two early goals from Kuhfeld and Lozenski, the Golden Eagles entered halftime leading just 2-1 thanks to a Spartan goal from Gabriella Ranek in the 23rd minute.
Central quickly pushed that margin with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half and cruised to the victory.
“Today’s game was a true test,” said Central coach Kendra Hanley. “The girls proved their worth and mental toughness, but mostly made a true showing of their intrinsic motivation. They knew the goal, had to dig deep, and then played with so much heart.”
Hanley said the team focused on a few key changes at halftime and was happy with the way her team responded after the break.
“We needed to touch on a few key points and it’s safe to say they executed those points,” Hanley said. “They listen well and execute, but most important, they are there for each other. They work hard for each other.”
Central will turn its attention to Huron on Tuesday afternoon, its third straight road game to begin the season. That contest is set for a 4 p.m. start.
