LENNOX – Groton received goals from three different players and picked up its first girls’ soccer win of the season with a 3-0 decision over Lennox on Tuesday afternoon.

Sydney Locke scored in the 12th minute to set the tone for the Tigers. Emerlee Jones added another goal in the opening half, and then Avery Crank found the back of the net for Groton’s final goal.

Tori Schuster had nine saves in goal for Groton, which fell to traditional powerhouses Dakota Valley and Sioux Falls Christian last week to start the season.

“We came out again very positive-minded and fast-moving for a thick grass field for the opening 10 minutes once again for the third time this season,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner. “The difference today was we got a goal in the opening stages and kept with it all game.”

Groton will continue on its current five-game road stretch with games at Belle Fourche on Friday and at St. Thomas More on Saturday.

“Today we played a different look throughout our back line,” Baumgartner said, “and I’m happy I saw organization in those spots and it’s something we plan to build off.”
