Area golfers compete at SDGA/Sanford Black Hills tourney

SPEARFISH – A group of area golfers earned top-20 spots during the two-day South Dakota Golf Association/Sanford International Series Black Hills tourney at Elkhorn Ridge on Wednesday and Spearfish Canyon on Thursday.

Taryn Hettick of Selby had the top finish among area golfers taking 10th in the girls’ division with a 36-hole total of 168. Aberdeen’s Claire Crawford was right behind in 11th with a 171. Mackenzie Wegehaupt of Aberdeen was 17th with a 189, and Waubay’s Sage Gaikowski was 18th with a 198.

Roscoe’s Seth Hettick finished 18th in the boys’ division with a 160, and Harper Schnabel of Aberdeen was 26th with a 165.

Kaitlin Strain of Rapid City won the girls’ championship with a 150. Ari Jacobs of Sioux Falls was runner-up with a 154.

Rapid City’s Hayden Heig won the boys’ title with a 146, two strokes better than runner-up Ben Akin of Elk Point.
