MILBANK – A pair of Groton boys combined to win five open events during the Valley Queen Cheese Invitational track and field meet on Tuesday.
Keegen Tracy won the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes and teammate Jayden Schwan won the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs. Milbank’s Harley Zemlicka won the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
In the girls’ division Paytyn Marlow of Langford Area won the 100 and 200, and finished second in the long jump. Kamryn Nesheim of Clark-Willow Lake won the 800 and 1,600, and finished second in the 3,200. Britton-Hecla’s Abigail Lee won the long jump and triple jump.
Aberdeen Roncalli was led by Kadince Glynn who won the 100-meter hurdles and was runner-up in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
“The 1,600 runners – Cole (Feickert), Blake (Hansen), Evan (Hansen) and Addi (Cassady) – all ran PRs,” said Roncalli co-coach Mark Stone. “Other PRs were Andrew Bain in the triple, Kadince in the 100 hurdles and 200, Brock (Bowman) in the javelin, and Isaac (Price) had his best day in the vault.”
As has been the case lately, conditions left something to be desired.
“It wasn’t an ideal day, but it is the same for everyone,” Stone said. “With all of our personal best performances, we were proud of the athletes for not allowing the weather to be an excuse. Mental toughness doesn’t pay much attention to the wind and the temperatures.”
