One of the unique parts to the round of SoDak 16 girls’ basketball games is that teams often face opponents in which they have nothing in common, with games taking place at neutral sites.

Of course, the one thing that Class B squads have in common is that they are now just one game away from reaching the goal of playing in the state tournament next week in Brookings.

Here is a look at each SoDak 16 involving area teams:

Ipswich (15-7) vs. Bennett County (19-3), 6 p.m. at Winner

Few teams can produce points in bunches quite like defending state champion Bennett County. The Warriors have scored 70 points or more eight times this season. Two of their three losses came to top-rated Class A Mahpiya Luta, and Class A SoDak 16 entrant Lakota Tech.

Ipswich, looking for its first state tourney appearance since 2019, has a squad full of athletes, some of whom have won state titles in other sports. Four of the Tigers’ losses this season came to teams still playing in the SoDak 16.

Warner (16-6) vs. Colman-Egan (21-1), 7 p.m. at Huron

Interestingly, this is a rematch of last fall’s SoDak 16 volleyball match that took place in the same venue.

Colman-Egan has lost just one game all season, that coming to Chester late in the season. The C-Hawks avenged that loss in a big way during the region last week.

Warner also gained a measure of revenge from one of its losses, defeating Northwestern in the region tournament last week in overtime. The Monarchs have played in numerous close games this season, which may pay dividends.

It will be a unique environment with plenty of players who know each other well from volleyball.

Highmore-Harrold (18-4) vs. Centerville (20-2), 7 p.m. at Mitchell

Teams with impressive records are ready to square off in this one.

Highmore-Harrold won its first 10 games of the season, while Centerville has won its last 14 games in a row.

Both avenged a setback as Highmore-Harrold lost to Sanborn Central-Woonsocket and then bounced back to defeat SCW. Centerville lost to Gayville-Volin before defeating GV in the region.

Highmore-Harrold last played in the state tourney in 2011, when the Pirates finished third in back-to-back seasons. Centerville won the state championship in 2024, before taking third last year.

Corsica-Stickney (16-5) vs. Waubay-Summit (20-2), 5:30 p.m. at Huron

As in most 8 vs. 9 seeded matchups, this could get pretty interesting before things are settled.

Waubay-Summit has just two losses to Class A teams on its ledger. The Mustangs will be looking to add on to the resume of Summit’s strong state tourney run when it won three state championships, the last in 2012, and also had a runner-up finish during a four-year run.

Corsica-Stickney has qualified for four of the past seven tournaments, the last coming in 2022 when the Jaguars finished third. Corsica-Stickney handed Harding County its only setback of the season.

This could be one of the tighter SoDak 16 games on the schedule.
