Conference championships have been decided, seed points awarded, and now it’s time for Class B girls’ basketball teams to put those things in the past and try to win their biggest games of the season.
Whether top dogs or under dogs, each team faces the same task heading into region action: survive and advance or else put the uniforms away for another season.
Here is a capsule look at each Class B region involving area teams:
Region 1B
Today, Tuesday, and Thursday at highest seeds
There are just two teams above .500 in this region, but any of the top five squads are capable of pulling off a big win.
Northwestern is the top seed, but went just 3-2 in its last five games. Warner is the second seed and has won eight of its last nine heading into the postseason.
Waubay-Summit, Hitchcock-Tulare, and Wilmot are all 10-10, and all would provide dangerous roadblocks in the semifinals if they can get there.

Region 2B
Today, Tuesday, and Thursday at highest seeds, De Smet and Deubrook Area
While Deubrook Area and De Smet are the top seeds in this region, there is potential for things to get interesting here.

Deubrook Area is looking at a potential semifinal matchup against either Castlewood or Wessington Springs, who played solid schedules. Meanwhile, second-seeded De Smet has lost four of its last six games and could be facing Arlington, which has also lost four of its past six, in the semifinals.

Region 6B
Today, Tuesday and Thursday
There are five teams in this region that have won at least a dozen games and will be battling to reach next week’s SoDak 16.
Highmore-Harrold and Tiospaye Topa are the top seeded teams, but each will likely face a stiff challenge in the semifinal round.
Faulkton is the third seed and has been playing some of its best basketball lately, having won eight of its last nine games.

The intensity gets started right away with a quarterfinal matchup between Herreid-Selby Area and North Central. The Thunder are one of the hottest teams around, having won 10 of their last 11 games, including a win over HSA.
