BLAINE, Minn. – The Aberdeen Wings scored five unanswered goals to erase an early deficit and pick up a 5-3 win over Springfield during the NAHL Showcase on Wednesday night.
After giving up a pair of first-period goals, the Wings responded in a big way with three goals in the second, and two more in the third to grab a three-goal advantage.
Jonathan Doucette scored in the opening minute of the second period to give Aberdeen momentum on assists from Brody Dustin and Lucas Schaefer. The Wings then scored two goals in less than a minute for a lead they would not lose. Bradyn Strom scored on an assist from Keaton Weis at the 7:19 mark, before David Hruby found the back of the net with 6:33 left on an assist from Doucette.
Aberdeen added two more goals in the third period. Payne Riffey scored on an assist from Melker Hof, and Dustin produced the final Wings score with 12:25 left.
The Wings outshot Springfield 26-20. Owen Lunneborg had 19 saves in goal for Aberdeen.
The Wings continue play in the Showcase with games on Friday and Saturday. Aberdeen takes on the New Jersey Titans on Friday afternoon, before concluding with the Kenai River Brown Bears on Saturday afternoon.
