WATERTOWN – A pair of Aberdeen Central track and field standouts added to their already impressive resumes during the Watoma Relays on Friday.

Taryn Hermansen recorded the second best mark in state history in the shot put, while Kyson Fayant moved into the top-10 all-time with his clocking in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

Hermansen continues to have a stellar spring and reached a career best distance of 48-feet, 11-inches.

“Taryn’s number two all-time in the state. … She’s number one AA all-time,” said Central coach Jim Appl.

Fayant was a part of three victories on the day, sweeping the 110-meter high hurdles, the 300 hurdles, and also running on the winning 800-meter relay team. The senior clocked a time of :38.53 in the 300s and was selected the outstanding male athlete of the meet.

“Obviously, the highlight of the day is Kyson Fayant won both the hurdle events,” said Central boys’ coach Greg Murley. “The 300s put him in the top 10 all-time.”

The Golden Eagles had major performances across the board in both divisions.

“We had a really good day today,” Murley said.

Karson Borge won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Tate DeVries won the 3,200-meter run, Jack Bertsch won the discus, and Evan Sichmeller finished second in the pole vault.

“Evan Sichmeller clearing 13-6 is a big accomplishment,” Murley said.

Central also won the sprint medley relay.

“We competed really hard,” Murley said.

Mya Arampatzis broke the meet record on the way to winning the 100-meter hurdles. Espynn Kuhfeld won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. The Golden Eagles also received second-place finishes from Paige Ewalt in the discus, Regan Lust in the high jump, Morgan Griebel in the long jump, and Lucy Fritz in the triple jump.

“Overall, on the track we did some really nice things in some relays to set us up for May,” Appl said.

He also pointed out the efforts in the field events.

“We had lot of good things happen in those places,” Appl said. “The arrow is upward and we are getting ready for May.”

Central will take some members to a meet at Mitchell on Thursday, while others will go to the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls next weekend.

Appl said the first two months of the season are used to gear up for a big finish to the season next month.

“We gotta figure out what we need to get better at. We need to figure out what we need to improve,” Appl said. “May matters. Everything we’ve done til now is just a build up to May.”
