Braun named Junior Female Golfer of the Year

Aberdeen’s Oliva Braun has been named the Junior Female Golfer of the Year by the South Dakota Golf Association.

The junior at Aberdeen Central won the SDGA Girl’s Junior Championship, was a finalist at the SDGA Women’s Match Play Championship, and was runner-up at the SDGA Women’s Amateur Championship this past summer. Braun was also the this year’s SDGA Sanford Golf Series Champion, was runner-up at the Class AA State Girls’ Golf Tournament, and was the 2023 runner-up in the SDGA Junior Girls Championship.

Braun is currently playing in the PGA TOUR Champions’ PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee at Pebble Beach this week. She is one of 80 teens from First Tee chapters across the country competing in the event. Teens will be paired with PGA TOUR Champions pro and amateur. Braun has been paired up with Steve Flesch, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour and a former TV golf analyst and member of the Champions Tour.

Other SDGA award winners include Male Golfer of the Year Luke Honner of Sioux Falls, Female Golfer of the Year Reese Jansa of Sioux Falls, Senior Male Golfer of the Year Brad Buche of Mitchell, Senior Female Golfer of the Year Marna Rabun of Rapid City, and Junior Male Golfer of the Year Riley Christensen of Sioux Falls.
