Cavaliers pick up singles places at Madison tourney

MADISON – The Aberdeen Roncalli tennis program opened its weekend of play at the Madison Invitational, completing the singles portion of the tournament-style event Friday.

The Cavaliers were led by a fourth-place finish by Raley Haskell in the flight 3 bracket. Keira Rivett finished fifth at flight 5, while Anna Mitzell was sixth at No. 4 and River Haskell was seventh at No. 2.

“It was a tough day on the courts for everyone,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. “We were able to eke out a few wins, but nobody had a stellar day.”

The tournament featured pool play matches to begin the day, which seeded the bracket play in the latter half of the day.

“It was nice to get together and play mostly (Class A) schools in a tournament-style setting,” Jason Haskell said. “It’s a good meet for us to get a barometer for the season.”

Roncalli resumes action today with the doubles portion of the two-day tournament.
