Second-quarter stretch costs Central in setback to Lincoln

A second-quarter lull spelled the demise of the Aberdeen Central boys basketball program Saturday afternoon, as the Golden Eagles fell 78-58 to No. 3 Sioux Falls Lincoln at Golden Eagles Arena. “The second quarter,” said Central coach Brent Norberg. “Everything else, we played them about even, but the second quarter killed us.” Central rode out a roller-coaster first quarter that saw the Golden Eagles go from a 9-2 advantage to a 13-9 disadvantage, then back to a 15-13 lead before settling for a 16-15 deficit at quarter’s end. But the visiting Patriots owned the second stanza. Elliot Whitney scored nine points in that quarter, complementing Lincoln’s formidable inside presence of 7-foot-1 forward JT Rock, a recent Iowa State commit. Rock and Whitney combined for 51 of Lincoln’s 78 points in the game.
