HURON – The Aberdeen Central tennis team split a trio of single-match decisions Saturday at the Huron Quad, defeating Huron by a 5-4 count while falling to Brandon Valley and Mitchell by the same score.
“It was a 12-hour day on the courts,” said Central coach John Vogel. “All three matches were tough, as you would expect from Eastern South Dakota Conference teams.”
Central was without the services of top singles player Emily Ringgenberg, who sat out with an injury.
“We really missed Emily,” Vogel said. “But the girls gave it their best today.”
Jenna Joachim and Reese Comstock shared the load while filling in for Ringgenberg.
Elsewhere, Livia Douglas won all three of her singles matches at No. 4 singles, as did Avery Tennant at No. 6.
“I was really impressed with Livia Dougles,” Vogel said. “She played great at No. 4 singles. Her match against Brandon Valley was the best I’ve seen her play in a long time.”
Douglas and partner Carly Comstock also won two of their three doubles matches at second flight.
Central will head to Madison Tuesday to face both Madison and Vermillion in a pair of non-conference matches.
