PIERRE – Aberdeen Roncalli picked up two more tennis victories on Tuesday to run its current winning streak to eight straight matches. The Cavaliers doubled up Pierre 6-3 and defeated Rapid City Central 7-2.
Roncalli started out the day with a pair of doubles wins over Pierre, meaning they just needed to split the six singles matches to get the dual victory.
“We got dominant wins from Molleigh (Hofer) and Abigail (Andersen) and we were ahead 4-3 with Lydia (Nora) and Sydney (Bohle) will playing,” said Roncalli coach Ryan Bohle. “Both were ahead, but both were really close versus really, really good opponents.”
Both players pulled out 10-7 wins to secure the dual triumph.
“This one was pretty special,” Coach Bohle said, “because we think Pierre is a really nice AA team.”
The Cavaliers then split a pair of doubles matches against Central and trailed in the flight two match.
“At 6-7, we talked about playing with confidence, pushing our serves, and finishing,” Bohle said. “Molleigh and Gianna (Cihak) did all those things great the last four games to get the win and take us to 2-1 before singles. I think that match really set the tone for the singles.”
The Cavaliers then won five of the six singles matches to finish off the day and extend their dual winning streak.
“I think we are pretty lucky that we get to sit back and watch what this team is doing this year,” Bohle said. “We know that we absolutely have some real tough ones coming up and we look forward to those challenges, but man, it sure is great to see these ladies succeed on a day like today.”
Roncalli will have its home opener on Monday when it hosts St. Thomas More at the Northern State Courts.
