SISSETON – Aberdeen Roncalli finished second to Madison at the Sisseton Invitational golf tournament on Thursday led by Claire Crawford who was runner-up individually.

The Cavaliers finished with a team total of 410, 13 strokes behind Madison.

Crawford shot a 93, four strokes off the pace of medalist Eleni Sims of Madison.

Roncalli’s Margaret Anderson finished eighth with a 99, one shot ahead of teammate Grace Seyer who was ninth with a 100. Ava Danielson shot a 118.

“We played pretty darn well,” said Roncalli coach Kerry Brandenburger, noting the playing conditions. “It was a very tough day because of conditions and the course was very wet. A lot hadn’t been mowed, yet. It was tough to find balls. We were extremely happy with today.”

Brandenburger pointed out the play of Danielsen who shot one of her lowest totals of the season.

“I’m so very happy that Ava improved by 12-14 shots today,” Brandenburger said. “And of course, Claire, Margaret and Grace are just so steady and don’t really fluctuate in scores. They’re very consistent.”

The Cavaliers are gearing up for the Region 1A Tournament Thursday in Madison.

“Our goal is to be one of the top three teams in the region,” Brandenburger said.
