MITCHELL – Madison won its first Class A state gymnastics championship since 2017 on Friday at the Corn Palace, dethroning four-time defending state champ Deuel, which finished runner-up.
Either Madison or Deuel has won the team title every since 1994, when Vermillion was the team champion.
Madison, which has now won 21 state championships, finished with 135.333 points. Deuel scored 134.933. Milbank Area took seventh and Britton-Hecla was eighth.
O’Gorman won the Class AA team championship with Mitchell second.
The individual portion of the meet takes place today.
