WATERTOWN – Aberdeen Central’s Josh Martin won the individual race and the Golden Eagles won the boys’ team championship during the Watertown Invitational Cross Country Meet on Thursday.

Central finished with 70 points, while runner-up Sioux falls Lincoln had 84.

Martin clocked a time of 16 minutes, 13 seconds to win the individual race. Jacob Angerhofer was sixth and Tino Lopez ninth for the Eagles.

“We continue to improve as the season progresses,” said Central boys’ coach Greg Murley. “We had a handful of PRs.”

Lincoln won the girls’ team crown. Central finished fifth.

The Golden Eagles were led by Kaylie Peldo who was 11th and Aylssa Roehrich who was 14th.

“We had some runners that had good races and some that just weren’t feeling very well,” said Central girls’ coach Bill Martens. “Kaylie Peldo and Alyssa Roehrich had solid races. Alivia Burgard had another strong performance. Those three had personal best times again this week.”

The Eagles will now have a week to prepare for the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet, Saturday, Oct. 9 in Brandon.

“We have an important week of mental and physical training ahead of us as we prepare for the ESD meet,” Murley said. “We look forward to the course challenges that will be presented to us.”
