FAULKTON – Faulkton was able to finish off tight sets and ended up snapping Aberdeen Christian’s 12-match winning streak Thursday night.

The Trojans defeated third-rated Christian 25-19, 9-25, 25-22, 25-21 in the Lake Region Conference volleyball match.

“The girls fought hard tonight, but we just weren’t able to make it happen,” said Knights coach Maggie Jett. “A lot of credit to Faulkton for playing a solid volleyball game. They’re a good team and we just weren’t able to pull it out tonight.”

After the hosts won the opener, Christian dominated the second set. The Knights were on the door step in both of the last two sets, but were unable to get over the hump. Faulkton pulled away from an 18-18 tie in the fourth set to finish off the victory in front of a loud and enthusiastic crowd.

“It’s tough to go into that gym with that environment and pull out a win against a good team if you aren’t running on all cylinders,” Jett said, “and unfortunately tonight we didn’t quite have enough to get the job done.”

Isabel Aesoph finished with a match-high 20 kills to lead the Trojans, 15-4 on the season. Shayna Heitmann followed with 15 kills.

Mary Fites had 16 kills and Hanna Miller 14 to lead the Christian attack, which racked up 46 kills in all.

The Knights also had six aces, led by Grace Kaiser with four.

Christian, 13-2 on the season, plays at defending Class B state champion Northwestern on Tuesday.

“It’s been a tough week for the girls and we have some things to work on,” Jett said, “so we’ll get back at it and reset for next week.”
