Third period lifts Austin past Wings

Austin scored a pair of third-period goals, one an empty netter in the closing seconds, to secure a 3-1 win over the Aberdeen Wings in NAHL hockey action at the Odde Ice Center on Friday night.

The Bruins took a lead in the opening period before the Wings tied the score late in the second when Jonathan Doucette found the back of the net with 2:08 left on assists from Campbell Epp and Ari Popovskiy.

Austin scored on a short-handed goal less that three minutes into the third period and made that goal standup despite being outshot by the Wings by a 28-18 margin. The visitors tacked on an empty net goal for the final margin of difference.

Willum Braun had 16 saves in net for Aberdeen.

The same two teams are back on the ice tonight with puck drop set for 7:15 p.m. at the Odde.
