SISSETON – Aberdeen Roncalli got a wake-up call and then took care of business Thursday night.

The Cavaliers dropped the opening set before scoring a 24-26, 25-14, 25-7, 25-6 Northeast Conference volleyball win over Sisseton to improve to 7-1 on the season.

“We definitely underestimated Sisseton coming into the match. They are a hard-fought team, scrappy, athletic team and gave us a run in the first set with their hard hits,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware. “We were also very flat-footed, and had multiple service receive and serving errors.”

The Cavaliers regrouped and then proceeded to surrender just 27 points the rest of the match on the way to the victory.

“The girls cleaned up our errors and switched the momentum to our side the second through fourth sets in hitting the open spots, and serving aggressively,” Ware said. “We tried getting Sisseton out of system to use to our advantage when we could, also. Our serving was our biggest strength tonight in the win.”

Cambry Feickert topped the Cavaliers with eight aces, and Gabby Thomas contributed six.

Grace Cogley led a balanced Roncalli hitting attack with 13 kills, followed by Jillian Ellwein with 12.

Roncalli heads into a demanding week of action, playing at second-rated Class B Warner on Tuesday, before hosting fourth-rated Class A Clark-Willow Lake on Thursday. The two opponents currently have a combined record of 28-1.
