Fayant, Hermansen headline list of track and field awards

Kyson Fayant and Taryn Hermansen, who won state championships for Aberdeen Central last month, were selected as honorable mention for the South Dakota High School Coaches Association Track and Field All-American Team.

All-American winners are Halle Braun of Sioux Falls Christian and Peyton Van Deest of Spearfish in the girls’ division, and Mikah Peters of Brandon Valley and Javon Haukaas of Sioux Falls Lincoln in the boys’ division.

Other honorable mention selections include Ellie Maddox of Sioux Falls Christian in girls, and Rush O’Neil of Bennett County in boys.

The Circle of Champions Coach of the Year is Luke VanderLeest of Sioux Falls Christian.

The SDHSCA also announced its inaugural all-state awards based solely on times, places and distances in each event, regardless of class.

Area athletes who earned all-state status in the girls’ division include: Mya Arampatzis of Aberdeen Central in the 100-meter hurdles, Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern in the 800-meter run, Taryn Hermansen of Aberdeen Central and Eliza Larson of Clark-Willow Lake in the shot put, Abigail Lee of Britton-Hecla in the triple jump, Aberdeen Central (Keyana Stillman, Savana Arampatzis, Josphine Cobbs, Mya Arampatzis) in the 400-meter relay, and Clark-Willow Lake (Jennifer Bevers, Johanna Vandersnick, Cadence Bochek, Kamryn Nesheim) in the spring medley relay.

Area athletes who earned all-state status in the boys’ division include: Kyson Fayant of Aberdeen Central in the 300-meter hurdles, Oliver Fieber of Deuel and Kyle Hettich of Ipswich in the 100-meter dash, Fieber and Carter Lust of Aberdeen Central in the 200-meter dash, Keegen Tracy of Groton in the 400-meter dash, Tate DeVries of Aberdeen Central in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run, Lawson Novy of Milbank and Matthew Mount of Webster in the shot put, Brenner Waldrop of Aberdeen Central is the discus, Sam Rick of Milbank, Dylan Hofer of Aberdeen Christian and Ty Boekelheide of Northwestern in the triple jump, Rick and Evan Sichmeller of Aberdeen Central in the pole vault, Mount and Spencer Melius of Faulkton in the javelin, Aberdeen Central (Austin Ryan, Carter Lust, Karson Borge, Caden Forred) in the 400-meter relay, and Aberdeen Central (Ryan, Lust, Borge, Fayant) and Deuel (Axel Gallardo, Gavin Kloos, Brock Johnson, Oliver Fieber) in the 800-meter relay.
