There are two new area state-wide leaders among the Class B track and field leaders this week.
Faulkton’s Spencer Melius tops the javelin (169-5) following his first competition in the event this season. Ipswich’s 3,200-meter relay team squad moved from third into first with their clocking (9:57.63) this past weekend.
Ipswich athletes top four open events. Kyle Hettich has the fastest time in the 200-meter dash and is second in the 100. Brody Davis leads the pole vault. Isabella Galbraith has the top time in the 3,200-meter run, and Jalyssa Hutson is first in the pole vault.
Other area athletes leading open events include Northwestern’s Ella Boekelheide who is first in the 800 and 1,600, and also fifth in the 400, Leola’s Jacob Kindelspire who is first in the shot put, and Ty Boekelheide of Northwestern who tops the triple jump.
Other area boys among the leaders are Castlewood’s Brody Bass who is second in the 110-meter hurdles followed by Warner’s Beckham Cantapole in third, and Melius is fourth, Martin Mickelson of Waverly-South Shore who is second in the javelin with Faulkton’s Weston Senn in fourth and Bass in sixth, Cantalope who is fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with Melius in fifth, Cantalope who is fourth in the 400 with Wilmot’s Ethan Schwenn in fifth, Warner’s Easton Bruns who is third in the pole vault with teammate Paxton Johnson in seventh, Aberdeen Christian’s Dylan Hofer who is third in the triple jump followed by Tyson Schumacher of Herreid-Selby Area in fourth, Logan LaBrie of Hitchcock-Tulare in sixth, and Hudson Barber of Sully Buttes in eighth, LaBrie who is fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100, Kadyn Westergren of Sully Buttes who is fifth in the shot put, Gavin Hirsch of Herreid-Selby Area who is sixth in the 1,600, and Ipswich’s Tate Hogie who is sixth in the discus.

Area boys’ relay teams in the leaders include Ipswich which is second in the 400 with Aberdeen Christian in fifth, Ipswich which is fifth in the 800 with Castlewood in eighth, Faulkton which is sixth in the 3,200, and Castlewood which is eighth in the 1,600.
Other area girls among the leaders are Madisyn Gellhaus of Ipswich who is second in the 3,200 with teammate Jayla Stiles in third, Warner’s Miah Leidholt who is second in the high jump, North Central’s Peyton Schnabel who is second in the pole vault followed by Warner’s Avery Bruns in fourth and Courtney Leidholt in fifth and Carleigh Dosch of North Central in eighth, Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington who is third in the 800 followed by Marley Guthmiller of Ipswich in fourth and Emma Schlachter of Gettysburg in seventh, Warner’s Kaydee Mackner who is third in the long jump followed by Breanna Jochim of Herreid-Selby Area in seventh, Jochim who is fourth in the 100, followed by Paytyn Marlow of Langford Area in fifth, and Schnabel in seventh, Galbraith who is fourth in the 1,600, Hoven’s Dannika Kaup who is fifth in the 300 hurdles with Guthmiller in seventh, Kaup who is seventh in the 100 hurdles, and Ipswich’s Tristan Geditz who is fifth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
Other area girls’ relay teams in the leaders are Ipswich which is third in the medley followed by Wolsey-Wessington in fourth, Northwestern which is fourth in the 1,600 followed by Ipswich in sixth, Warner which is fifth in the 400 with Langford Area in seventh, and Warner which is fifth in the 800 with Wolsey-Wessington in eighth.
