EUREKA – Faulkton’s Spencer Melius won three open events during the Eureka Legion Relays track and field meet on Saturday.
The senior won the 110-meter high hurdles, the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, and the javelin with a Class B leading distance of 169-feet, 5-inches.
Aberdeen Roncalli athletes also had a big day.
Kadince Glynn swept the hurdles races for the Cavaliers, while Quinten Shelton won the triple jump, ran on the winning sprint medley relay team, and was also a member of runner-up relay squads in the 400-meter and 1,600-meter.
“As we expect, the performances are continuing to improve,” said Roncalli coach Mark Stone. “On the boys’ side, some events of note are Quinten in the triple, Brock Bowman in the javelin, the Hansen twins (Blake and Evan), Kadince in the hurdles and several middle schools girls that ran well. Clare Peterson in a quiet way, she is such an important leader by example for us.”
The Cavaliers, who will compete at the Valley Queen Cheese meet Tuesday at Milbank, are right on pace as the season is quickly winding to a close.

“It’s the time of year we should be showing growth,” Stone said. “The calendar reminds us we don’t have lots of opportunities left.”
Other double open event winners in the girls’ division were Rylee Hanson of Herreid-Selby Area in the shot put and discus, and Brooklyn Mueller of Faulkton in the long jump and triple jump.
