Huron hands Central first volleyball setback

HURON – After three straight road wins to start the season, Aberdeen Central came up short Thursday night.

Huron took advantage of some uncommon Golden Eagles miscues to hand them their first loss of the season in a 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 Eastern South Dakota Conference volleyball sweep.

“We knew we’d have some night like this with our young crew and it happened,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel. “They are focused on getting another shot at Huron soon.”

Kiana Mounga had six kills and a pair of solo blocks to lead Central. Grace Kuch added five kills, one solo block and two assists.

Bindenagel was pleased with how her team fought through adversity throughout the match.

“We did a really nice job persevering in some long rallies and found a way to win some big points,” she said. “We just made uncharacteristic errors at unfortunate times.”

Meghan Mork led the Eagles with 14 digs and Sydney Evans had nine.

Central was able to hang with the Tigers thanks to its defense.

“Our defense made some really nice plays,” Bindenagel said.

The Eagles, 3-1, head to Pierre for another ESD road match on Saturday.
