SPEARFISH – Olivia Braun of Aberdeen, and Jonathan DeBoer of Twin Brooks are both in second place following the opening day of the Sanford International Golf Series at Elkhorn Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday.
Braun, who won the Class AA state championship recently while competing for Aberdeen Central, is tied for second after a round of 77. Ellia Homstad of Yankton also shot a 77. Kaitlin Strain of Rapid City sits atop the leaderboard with a 75.
Aberdeen’s Claire Crawford, a senior to be at Roncalli, is in seventh with an 88, and Olivia Knox of Doland is 14th with a 115.
DeBoer, who golfs for Milbank, is in second in the boys’ division following an opening round total of 71. Jayden Antonen of Sioux Falls is the leader with a 69.
Other area golfers include Gavin Colson of Onida who is tied for seventh with a 77, and Cole Brust of Aberdeen who is tied for 26th with an 88.
The tournament concludes today with action at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.
