MOBRIDGE – Aberdeen Roncalli captured the boys’ team championship during the Mobridge-Pollock Early Bird track and field meet on Thursday.
The Cavaliers won five individual events on the day in the boys’ division and added another one on the girls’ side. Aberdeen Christian also had some notable performances.
“We just had so many good things happen today. … We had so many PRs, field events, track events,” said Roncalli coach Mark Stone. “It was an opportunity really to see our kids compete in an outdoor setting, and for them to understand what’s this look like for us. I was so proud of how they competed and the effort they gave today.”
Roncalli received wins from Brody Weinmeister in the 100-meter dash, Parker Grieben in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter intermediate hurdles with teammate Aiden Fisher in second, Jean-Anthony Thomas in the shot put, and Isaac Price in the pole vault on the way to winning the boys’ team title.
“Our boys won the team points. We don’t enter with such things in mind,” Stone said. “Not that we don’t appreciate that or want to do that, but usually that happens because we’re trying to get kids in spots to see where they’re at.”
Roncalli’s Maddie Huber won the 100-meter hurdles.
Christian received a school-record setting performance from Dylan Hofer who won the triple jump.

“Dylan went 41-feet 11-inches in triple jump and broke our school record. He worked out consistently all off season, so I’m not shocked,” said Christian coach Sam Bjorkman. “Beyond that, he is so gifted as a technically-minded athlete and a great kid, so it’s always fun to see him succeed.”
Brooks Jett finished fourth in the long jump for the Knights, while Shawnteah LaCroix was second in the 100-meter dash.
