WATERTOWN – Several area athletes made their mark on the individual state gymnastics competition on Saturday, the second of two days of action at the Watertown Arena.
Deuel’s Hannah Cutshaw was eighth in the Class A all-around, including taking fourth on floor and sixth on bars.
Sisseton’s Izzy Metz was 11th in all-around, finishing third in the vault, and ninth on the floor.
Deuel’s Laycee Andersen was 12th in all-around and eighth on beam. Abigail Lee of Britton-Hecla was 13th in all-around.
Tai Engels of Deuel was second in the vault, and ninth on floor.
Milbank’s Hannah Brown was 14th in the all-around led by a fourth-place finish on the vault, while fellow Bulldog Macyn Dunnihoo was eighth on floor.

At the Class AA level, it was Aberdeen Central eighth-grader Madelyn Walberg leading the way, finishing 13th overall in the all-around. Walberg’s top individual event was a 15th place effort in the vault.
“That was really exciting for such a young gymnast,” said Central coach Mickey Everson.
Central had a full squad on the vault.
“We had six qualifiers on vault so we had a great representation of Golden Eagles. They all performed extremely well,” said Central coach Mickey Everson. “I couldn’t have asked for them to do any better”
Everson noted that this was the final performance of the year and for the seniors of their careers.
“The day was letting these girls perform, for some, one last time,” Everson said. “They had fun, they supported each other, had some tears together, and finished the season with amazing gymnastics.”
