SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Roncalli wrapped up another memorable season by taking home a plaque from the Class A State Girls’ Tournament at Bakker Crossing on Tuesday.
The Cavaliers finished sixth as a team during the event, capping off a year of accomplishments, which included a third consecutive Northeast Conference championship.
“It wasn’t the finish we wanted,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy, “but to get a plaque at state and winning regions and NEC in the same year is a great year for these girls.”
Sioux Falls Christian won the team title and St. Thomas More’s Kaitlin Strain earned medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 152.
Groton’s Carly Guthmiller was the top area finisher, taking eighth place with a two-day total of 161. The senior recorded a hole-in-one on number 11 to highlight her round.
Roncalli sophomore Claire Crawford finished in a tie for 18th with a total of 171. Sisseton’s Elliot Hortness tied for 24th with a score of 174.

Among the other top area golfers were Carlee Johnson of Groton who was 40th with a 185, and Roncalli’s Grace Seyer who tied for 41st at 186, and Mackenzie Wegehaupt and Morgan Helms who tied for 49th with rounds of 191.
Roncalli did not have a senior or a junior among this year’s golfers.
“The future is looking good for Roncalli,” Murdy said.
