BROOKINGS – There are a lot of familiar names among the top 10 golfers following the first round of the Class B state boys’ and girls’ golf tournaments on Monday.
A total of seven area golfers are among the top 10 in the girls’ division, which is playing at Edgebrook Golf Course. Three area golfers are among the top five spots in the boys’ division, which is competing at Brookings Country Club.
Blake Larson of Wessington Springs, who fired a 74, owns a one-shot lead over Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes and Derek Brueggeman of Miller, while Faulkton’s Drake Mueller tied for fourth just two shots back.
Chet Peterson of Ipswich and Cade Gaikowski of Clark-Willow Lake are among a group of four golfers tied for eighth after rounds of 79.
Wessington Springs owns a nine-shot lead in team points with Hamlin tied for second with Hanson.

Individually, Jadyn McDonald owns a one-shot lead after firing a 76. Miller’s Jayce Pugh is in second with a 77, followed by Brynn Roehrich of Clark-Willow Lake in third with a 79, and Olivia Mikkelsen of Potter County in fourth with an 81.
Olivia Olson of Sully Buttes is tied for fifth with an 83, Kaihlyn Anderberg of Miller is tied for seventh with an 85, and Taryn Hettick of Selby Area, and Eva Koisti of Hamlin are among a three-way tie for ninth with rounds of 86.
