Aberdeen Central track and field members used solid performances from last weekend’s Eastern South Dakota Conference meet to move up among the Class AA leaders this week.
The Golden Eagles bettered their times or distances in 14 total events in this week’s leaders as a result of the ESD meet.
On the boys’ side, David Van Veen has now moved into second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:21.20. The senior is also sixth in the 3,200.
Colby Dauwen is among the top eight in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with seventh best time. In field events, Tyler Bain is tied for fifth in the high jump with teammate Brendan Phillips tied for eighth, Jett Carlson is seventh in the javelin, and Jack Bertsch is eighth in the discus.
The Golden Eagles are fifth in the 1,600-meter relay.
In the girls’ division, Central can be found in 11 different events.
Taryn Nieman remains second in the discus. Ciara Frank is tied for second in the high jump after going 5 feet, 5 inches at ESD, is third in the long jump, and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles. Madison Hochstetter is tied for fourth in the high jump, sixth in the triple jump, and eighth in the 100 hurdles. Taryn Hermansen is fourth in the shot put.

Elsewhere, Mya Aramptzis is tied for fifth in the 100 hurdles, Grace Rife is sixth in the 200 and seventh in the 100, and Breckan Santjer is tied for seventh in the pole vault.
The Golden Eagles have the third best time in the 800-meter relay, and the sixth best time in the 400-meter relay.
