Class B Leaders

It proved to be a big week for the Ipswich boys and that is reflected in this week’s Class B track and field leaders.

The Tigers won the 400-meter and 800-meter relays in Class B at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays and their winning times are the best in the class this season. Trevor Heinz, who is a member of those squads, also recorded the best long jump in Class B during the Lake Region Conference meet on Tuesday with a leap of 22 feet, 6 and one-half inches.

There are three other area athletes who top boys’ events including Lincoln Woodring of Northwestern in the 800-meter run, Spencer Melius of Faulkton in the javelin, and Rasmus Loken of Ipswich in the pole vault.

Other area boys among the top five in this week’s leaders include Carter Luikens of Potter County who is third in the 400-meter dash, Woodring who is fifth in the 1,600-meter run, Melius who is fourth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, Leola’s Dustin Wurtz who is third in the shot put and fifth in the discus, Northwestern’s Ty Boekelheide who is second in the triple jump, Hunter Cramer of Warner who is fifth in the javelin, and Lane Tvedt of Castlewood who is fourth in the long jump.

Northwestern is second in the sprint medley relay, and fourth in the 3,200-meter relay.

In the girls’ division, Ipswich’s Marley Guthmiller is the new leader in the pole vault, while Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern has the best times in the 800 and 1,600, is second in the 3,200, and third in the 400.

Other area girls among the top five leaders are Shawnteah La Croix of Aberdeen Christian who is second in the 200 and fifth in the 100, Breanna Jochim of Herreid-Selby Area who is fourth in the 100 and 200, Madisyn Gellhaus of Ipswich who is third in the 1,600 and 3,200, Savanna Hayes of Faulkton who is third in the javelin, Jalyssa Hutson of Ipswich who is second in the pole vault, Warner’s Jordyn Jensen and Bayleann Moen of Langford Area who are tied for third in the pole vault, Emma Schneider of Hitchcock-Tulare who is fourth in the triple jump, and Kailynn Dorris of Wolsey-Wessington is tied for fifth in the javelin.

In girls’ relays, Herreid-Selby Area is third in the 400 and fifth in the 800, Potter County is second in the 1,600, third in the sprint medley, and fourth in the 3,200, and Aberdeen Christian is fourth in the 400.
