DELL RAPIDS – Competing in a meet that featured many of the top Class A golf teams in the state, Aberdeen Roncalli finished sixth with a season-low team score of 318 during the Quarrier Invitational golf tournament on Monday.
Tea Area topped the field with a total of 303, four strokes better than West Central. The tourney included the top five teams at last year’s state tournament.
“Great team score today,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “I love watching them improve individually and as a team.”
Chamberlain’s Dakota Munger shot a blistering round of 66 to earn medalist honors. Anthony Lanham of West Central was second with a 69. The top 18 golfers all shot rounds lower than 80 on the day.
Roncalli was led by Andrew Gerlach and Finn Anderson who both shot 75 and finished in a three-way for 10th.
“With Andrew and Finn both competing for the top spot for us, it will be fun to see where they sit when we get to the state tournament,” Murdy said.
While Gerlach and Anderson have led the Cavaliers this season, Murdy said they are also concerned about how their teammates are doing.
“They’re always asking how everyone else is doing on the team,” Murdy said. “They’re always looking at team first.”

Lucas Daggett fired an 83, Jesse Hernandez had an 85, Gannon May an 87, and Aiden Hernandez a 91 to round out the Roncalli scoring.
The Cavaliers will be competing in the Northeast Conference Tournament today in Redfield.
“We still have many areas to improve on,” Murdy said.
