VOLGA – Groton’s Brevin Fliehs captured medalist honors, while Aberdeen Roncalli finished runner-up in team points at the Sioux Valley Invitational golf tournament on Monday.

Fliehs carded a round of 76 to edge Flandreau’s Kaden Burshiem by one stroke. Roncalli’s Finn Anderson finished fifth with a score of 82. Other top 10 golfers included Jonathon DeBoer of Milbank Area, eighth with an 85, Carter Simon of Groton ninth with an 85, and Jesse Hernandez of Roncalli 10th with an 85.

Aiden Hernandez and Andrew Gerlach of Roncalli finished 12th and 13th, respectively with 88s.

Roncalli was second in team points, six strokes behind Flandreau.

“It was a great feeling to start with a second place finish,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “Getting the boys hungry to get their first win.”

The Cavaliers are right back at it again today with another tournament in Madison.

“All the boys say they have lots of room for improvement,” Murdy said. “So hoping we can find a few things to help the score (Tuesday) at Madison.”
