WEBSTER – Aberdeen Christian picked up multiple victories in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the Webster Invitational track and field meet on Friday.
The Knights swept the 3,200-meter runs on the day. Holden Bartel won the boys’ distance race, while Grace Steger led a strong delegation of Christian runners in the girls’ race. Kathryn Steger finished second and Rachel Beaner was third.
“Holden is getting some good experience in the distance races,” said Christian coach Sam Bjorkman. “At his age and not being a cross country guy, every day he can get out and race is a huge opportunity to learn.”
The three distance girls all hit personal records and went under 13 minutes for the first time.
“It was really sweet to see them running together like they do in the fall and pushing each other as a team to PRs,” Bjorkman said.
Shawnteah La Croix also led a one-two Knights punch in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with teammate Joy Rohrbach taking second.
La Croix clocked a time of :27.36.
“I definitely see her with 26 potential this year,” Bjorkman said, “so it’s good to move that direction.”
Rohrbach is coming off of basketball and also has a lot of potential.
“I think we’ll probably see some very fast 200s from her,” Bjorkman said.
Those two girls were part of a pair of solid relay teams as well, teaming with Ali Isakson and Payton Skarin for a second-place finish in the 400-meter relay and a third-place showing in the 800-meter relay.
Christian won the boys’ 400-meter relay with the foursome of James Behan, Jackson Isakson, Abe Kretchman and Andrew Brennan. The Knights finished second in the 800 relay with the squad comprised of Brennan, Isakson, Kretchman and Walker Larson.

There were a pair of double individual winners during the meet.
Webster’s Drew Reetz won the 200-meter dash along with the pole vault, while Tyler O’Neill of Clark-Willow Lake won the 400 and 800.
The Knights will be competing in Eureka on Tuesday.
“It’s interesting to see how we just need the repetitions of being in meets,” Bjorkman said, “especially with young athletes on the girls’ side.”
