The Groton soccer teams were both blanked in opening round playoff action on Tuesday.

The Groton girls fell to St. Thomas More 1-0, while the Tigers dropped a 4-1 decision to Hot Springs in boys’ action.

STM scored in the closing minutes of the girls’ contest. It marked the second time this season that the Cavaliers had edged Groton.

“Losing twice to STM on the same field this year, both in the last five minutes and under, stings a lot,” said Groton coach Matt Baumgartner. “This group was dealt a tough and jam-packed start of the year, but battled and adjusted to play very good soccer over the last few weeks.”
