FARGO, N.D. – Aberdeen Central got off on the wrong foot in the first of three matches on the opening day of the Fargo Metro Tournament Friday. The Golden Eagles fell 2-0 to Fargo South, but rebounded with 2-0 sweeps of Dickinson and Grand Forks Red River.

Central’s opening loss was a tightly contested affair, as the Golden Eagles lost by two in each set (27-25, 25-23).

Central coach Jackie Bindenagel said that match was a Murphy’s Law sort of outing for the Golden Eagles, but praised her squad for being able to regroup for the final two matches of the day. Central defeated Dickinson 25-15, 25-9 and Grand Forks Red River 25-12, 25-12.

“We took care of business in those matches,” Bindenagel said.

Lauryn Burckhard had a dozen kills and 10 digs in the Golden Eagles’ opening match. She followed that up with six kills against Red River. Karlie Nieman added five kills.

Central also had eight service aces and 22 total kills in the win over Dickinson.

Central will face Kindred in the opening round of bracket play on Saturday.
