MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli had three of the top six girls’ runners and four of the top nine, and the Cavaliers placed two among the top 10 boys during the Milbank Breathe Easy Cross Country Meet on Thursday.

Addison Cassady won the girls’ 4K race in a time of 16:03.99. Teammates Taylor McComsey and Hazel Kannegieter finished fifth an sixth respectively, Hannah Eskro was ninth.

“I was real pleased with our start to our meet. Our girls ran really well,” said Roncalli coach Casey Steele. “Addie took control of the race midway through, showing that she’s really a force to be reckoned with this year. I’m really proud of her, but the other girls bunched it up real nicely.”

In the boys’ division, seventh-grade Ben Weigel finished four in his first varsity race for Roncalli. Cole Feickert came in 10th.

“Little Ben Weigel ends up as a seventh grader being fourth in the meet and showed that fierce competitiveness,” Steele said. “The other boys, it was a nice introduction to the season and we’re ready to keep rolling.”

Sisseton’s Ryder Graff won the boys’ race, with Jeter Scoular of Milbank runner-up, and Brett Hanen of Sisseton third.

Roncalli is now off until competing at the Redfield Invitational next Thursday.
