BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Central picked up a pair of wins against a trio of Eastern South Dakota Conference tennis foes on Friday. The Golden Eagles defeated Brookings 8-1, fell to Harrisburg 8-1, and then capped the day with a 6-3 victory over Yankton.

“We started out against Brookings, and their top girls seemed much improved over last year,” said Central coach John Vogel.

However, that momentum was short lived against powerhouse Harrisburg.

“Harrisburg then served us some humble pie for our afternoon snack,” Vogel said. “We were up early in all three doubles matches, but the Tigers played like defending ESD champs and took us down. Birthday girl Raylee Zimmer played great to earn our lone victory at flight six.”

The Golden Eagles then split the six singles matches against Yankton heading into the doubles portion of the dual.

“I challenged the girls before dubs, saying we needed at least two,” Vogel said, “but how about we get all three? And all three teams took care of business.”

Zimmer won all three of her singles matches on the day, and teamed with Jovee Waldo to win a pair of doubles matches as well.

The Golden Eagles are right back in action today in Brookings, facing two more ESD opponents with Huron and Watertown.
