The South Dakota Golf Association Men’s Match Play Championship got off to a memorable start on Thursday when Aberdeen’s Harper Schnabel defeated defending champion Jake Olson at Moccasin Creek Country Club.

Schnabel, who will be a senior at Aberdeen Roncalli this fall, edged Watertown’s Olson 4&3 in pod action. Both golfers will be back in action when play resumes today.

Rain prevented the first day from being completed as some pods never teed off on their second round, while others were unable to finish their second rounds.

As a result, those golfers will need to finish up this morning before the reguarly scheduled matches, and the women’s portion of the tournament has been pushed back to a 9 a.m. start.

Action will continue on Saturday, with semifinal and championship rounds set for Sunday.
