Last year on July 10, 2025: The University of Jamestown officially has joined the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. One of Jamestown’s leaders is athletic director Austin Hieb, a former leader at NSU and Aberdeen Central graduate. The NSIC is a 16-team, 18-sport, NCAA Division II conference with institutions located in Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, including NSU.
10 years ago on July 9, 2016: Former NSU standout pitcher Galen Swenson of Castlewood has been selected to the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
20 years ago on July 9, 2006: Barrel racer Calley Worth of Gettysburg will compete in the National High School Rodeo finals in Illinois later this month.
30 years ago on July 6, 1996: Among the recruits for Dakota State football are Miller’s Vance Winter and Harold Hastings and Webster’s Matt Baumgarn.
40 years ago on July 12, 1986: The Minnesota Vikings have sold 56,850 season tickets for the season ahead while the Minnesota Gophers have sold 38,000.
50 years ago on July 10, 1976: Aberdeen Roncalli teacher and track coach Ken Greeno will become the Watertown track and cross country coach this fall.
