A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of June 7-13, 2026:

Last year on June 11, 2025: The Lake Norden amateur baseball team defeated host Ramona at its DeRungs Memorial Field. It was the first amateur game at the Ramona field since the 1960s and the first home game since the Express formed in 2023. The 1960 field is named after manager Logan DeRungs’ relatives. The community has renovated the field, built in 1960, with the help of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund, Sioux Valley Energy and local donations of money and volunteer labor.

10 years ago on June 10, 2016: Wayne Carney announced he will retire as executive director of the South Dakota High School Activities Association at the end of the next school year in 2017.

20 years ago on June 10, 2006: The Sioux Falls Storm (11-0) defeated Peoria (IL) 71-0 in the first shutout in the history of the United Indoor Football League.

30 years ago on June 9, 1996: The Brookings duo of Pat Lockwood and Mark Amundson won the South Dakota Golf Association Two-Man Best Ball championship. It was their fourth consecutive year of winning that title. Three teams tied for second, including Aberdeen’s Roger Legge and Steve Pfeifer. Winning the first flight were Dennis Bale and Jim Lust of Aberdeen.

40 years ago on June 7, 1986: The Claremont amateur baseball team defeated Dell Rapids Pabst Blue Ribbon 6-3 behind the offensive firepower of Sherm Cutler, Mike Traxinger and Dave Planteen.

50 years ago on June 12, 1976: Pine Ridge native and Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in Charleston (W.Va.).
