A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of May 31-June 6, 2026:

Last year on May 31, 2025: Northwestern junior Ella Boekelheide swept the State B track meet’s distance races and was the track co-MVP. She won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters. She has won seven state track titles as she was the 2024 800 and 1,600 champ and the 1,600 and 3,200 champ in 2022. In 2023, she was the state runner-up in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. She also won State B cross country titles in 2024 and 2021 and was the state runner-up in 2023 and 2022.

10 years ago on June 3, 2016: NFL legend Peyton Manning was the guest speaker at the SD Sports Awards in Sioux Falls.

20 years ago on June 3, 2006: The Class A team defeated the Class B team 15-4 in the South Dakota High School Baseball All-Star Game. Justin Kline of Aberdeen went 3-for-3 for the winners.

30 years ago on May 31, 1996: Aberdeen baseball legend Bob Beattie is helping coach the Sioux Falls Canaries this summer.

40 years ago on May 31-June 1, 1986: Rich Strom of Groton won the State A high jump and his Tigers won the team title.

50 years ago on June 5, 1976: Bruce Poe of Aberdeen was a starter on the Gustavus Adolphus (MN) college tennis team this past season.
