GROTON – Aberdeen Roncalli placed five players in the top eight spots, led by medalist Grace Seyer, on the way to winning the weather-shortened Northeast Conference Golf Tournament championship on Monday.
Play was stopped after nine holes. The Cavaliers had a team total of 177, 24 strokes better than Groton.
“It is not fun that’s it’s only nine? Yeah, but in the same game, the team still gets a win, Grace gets a win, get all the girls in the top 10,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “There’s a lot of positives, considering last year we didn’t have it to where this year we did have it. Was it nine holes, yeah, but again the girls played well, the girls had fun.”
Seyer had a total of 41 through nine holes, two strokes better than Sisseton’s Kenzley Heath.
Roncalli’s Claire Crawford was third with a 44, Mackenzie Wegehaupt with fourth with a 45, Morgan Helms was fifth with a 47, and Ava Danielson was eighth with a 49.
The Cavaliers will now gear up for the Region 1A Tournament on Wednesday.
“For the region, it’s going to be tougher,” Murdy said. “There’s a couple more teams that can make it a little bit tougher.”
The Cavaliers will get out and compete and see what the results are at the end of the day.
“That’s the one thing we always say. Let’s get out there no matter what, every swing it’s a competitive swing, every hole, every play is the best that we can do and if we get beat, fine,” Murdy said. “We’re not going to be happy with it or thrilled with it, but at the same time we’re going to go out there to compete the whole entire time.”
