A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of April 26-May 2, 2026:

Last year on April 29, 2025: One of South Dakota’s most popular, well-known and respected educators and coaches has died. Robert “Bob” Billotto, 73, of Eureka was born July 6, 1951, on Staten Island (NY). He was raised in Cherry Hill (NJ), but spent his lifetime coaching, teaching and positively influencing thousands in South Dakota.

10 years ago on April 28, 2016: Jarnell Stokes of the Sioux Falls Skyforce is the NBA Development League’s MVP.

20 years ago on April 29, 2006: The Minnesota Vikings selected Mount Vernon native Chad Greenway in the first round of the NFL Draft with the 17th overall pick. “Chad plays linebacker the way it should be played – wide open and recklessly,” said Vikings head coach Brad Childress.

30 years ago on April 27, 1996: Lincoln McIlravy of Philip and Jim Scherr of Mobridge qualified for the U.S. Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Trials. Scherr, 34, came out of retirement last month after a six-year layoff.

40 years ago on April 26, 1986: Huron graduate Rod DeHaven of SDSU was second in the 1,500 meters at the Drake Relays. DeHaven finished in 3:47.49 while winner Paul Larkins of Oklahoma State ran a 3:44.16.

50 years ago on April 26, 1976: At the recent Drake Relays, Webster native Laurel Prieb of Augustana finished 18th in a field of 275 runners in the marathon.
