HURON – Aberdeen Roncalli made strides despite falling in a pair of tennis duals on Friday. The Cavaliers fell to Huron 6-3 and to Madison 5-4.

“We played some of our better tennis of the season so far,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan. “We just can’t seem to get our whole squad to a meet together.”

The Cavaliers had some close matches against Huron. Linus Johnson won in a super tiebreaker 10-8 at third flight singles, Liam Voehl and Caleb Stoks teamed up for a 10-7 super breaker win at second flight doubles, and Ezra Feickert fell 7-6, 7-5 at top flight singles.

“Huron we played super tough,” Dignan said. “Ezra lost in a tough one. Linus played his most complete tennis against them in singles.”

Roncalli came up just short against Madison, splitting the six singles matches and winning one of the three doubles, that coming with another win by Voehl and Stoks, this time 10-8 in a super.

“Against Madison when we played aggressively it was our match to lose,” Dignan said. “We just played too timid at times. Our two doubles played outstanding today and coming out with two wins in supers should set them well for the season.”

As the season heads into the home stretch, Dignan likes what he is seeing.

“We finally are starting to feel like we’re hitting our swing of the season,” Dignan said, “and it’s coming at a pretty nice time.”
