WATERTOWN – Aberdeen Roncalli had its chances on Monday, but came up just short.

The Cavaliers lost three super-tiebreakers in a 5-4 loss to Sioux Falls Roosevelt and fell to Watertown 9-0

“We finished up the AAs today for the most part, so that’s nice,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan.

While the Cavaliers won four matches against the Rough Riders, they were very close to getting the dual-clinching victory in three other matches, falling 12-0 in one super and 10-8 in two others.

“A couple of those probably shouldn’t have gone to tiebreaks,” Dignan said, “but they did and we have to live with that. … We were right there. Just needed a couple breaks.”

Roncalli received victories from Liam Voehl at second flight singles, Caleb Stoks at fourth flight singles, and the flight two and flight three doubles teams.

The going was tougher against the Arrows.

“Watertown was solid. We let them dictate the match more than we should have and that came to get us,” Dignan said. “I cannot be disappointed with how well we hung with them in the points. We just made the mistakes today. We’ll take and learn.”

The Cavaliers were a bit short-handed without the services of Linus Johnson.

“Cody Niederbaumer filled in at 3 (singles) and 1 dubs for us and did outstanding,” Dignan said. “For never having played tennis before this season and then a month in filling at top end flights, he played really well and as a team we are proud of him.”

Roncalli has a dual at Huron on Friday.
